Programs

Recreation Instructional Youth Basketball programs are intended to promote the fundamentals of basketball, but more importantly fun and exercise.

This level builds upon the fundamentals of our Kindergarten / Grade 1 program and introduces players to “game situations” on an 8’ basket. Basic basketball skills and strategies will be introduced. Learning and building on the fundamentals are still the top priority of this level. Due to registration numbers, the format of this program for the upcoming season has been modified. We will run a hybrid clinic/game program on Saturday afternoons. The program will be led by Kristopher (Kris) O’Brien. Kris played four years of varsity basketball at Hudson High School, winning two league championships in 2018 and 2019; the latter year having a record of 22-3 which is a school record. He then went on to play 4 years of collegiate basketball at Rhodes College, a Division 3 school in Memphis, TN. After college, he coached two years of 8th grade basketball at Hudson High and now helps on the varsity team with scouting and skill development. Kris concluded his Bio by stating “I say this humbly as I’m excited to start working with the 2nd grade program!”. Over the course of the nine weeks of the program, Kris will spend approximately half the time instructing players (think of this as their practice time), the remaining time will be spent with game play between those in attendance. Players will be divided into “teams” each week and the composition of these team will change each week, avoiding the season-long creation of potentially a stronger team and a weaker team. Given the number of participants and the inclusion of Coach O’Brien, we feel this format will best suit our 2nd grade players.

The schedule for the program will be fairly consistent. Each Saturday, participants should arrive at the gym around 1:20pm and be ready to begin at 1:30pm. The program will run until 3:00pm.

Registration must be completed online or at the Recreation Office by Friday, October 31st. Registrations received after October 31st will be accepted only if space is available (a late fee of $20.00 per child will be charged per participant).

Program Days: Saturdays, December 6th - February 14th.
No Games December 27th and January 3rd.

Program Times: 1:30pm-3:00pm
